The God Complex (working titles: I know, Let's Do Horns Of The Nimon Again!; and: Matt's Last Good Episode) is a GOAT episode from series 6. It features a Nimonoid, a rat-man, and a muslim who WASN'T A TERRORIST, DON'T BE SCARED.
The Tardis lands randomly in the middle of an abandoned hotel, and the Doctor and his bitch and bitchette encounter a group of survivors abducted at random. There's nurse Rita, the Potential Companion of the episode (who, sure as shit, meets a tragic end), a nerd who was browsing /who/ before his abduction, a space frenchman, and a gambler who's "a bit tied up right now".
It turns out every room of the hotel is filled with nightmares, the greatest fear of every person who's there. Amy gets herself, back in the Eleventh Hour, waiting forever for the Doctor to come. The Doctor gets
the Valeyard the sixth Doctor's coat ten hanged men and an empty eleventh noose (jesus christ, Matt) a crack in time. The nurse gets daddy's disapproval. The gambler gets a gottle of gear. The nerd gets a bunch of giggling schoolgirls. The rat-faced sneering little frenchy gets Weeping Angels, which yeah, to be fair, are scary. Rory gets... nothing, but not because he fears nothing...
The rooms get you spooked so that you'll fall back on your faith, and that's what the Nimon eats when he comes for you. The gambler and the nerd fall victim in short order. There's a neat segment where the Doctor confronts the minotaur in a lounge, or a kitchen, or a hair salon, or something, it's a bit fuzzy in my memory. There's lots of mirrors.
Rita dies and it's very tragic and totally not something we all saw coming a mile away. Rory knocks on a table four times just to fuck with the people who thought he was the Master. The cheese eating surrender monkey keeps trying to let the minotaur win because "maybe it'll let us go!" And eventually, they discover that the hotel is actually a prison made for the minotaur, and once the Doctor breaks Amy's faith in him, it's enough to save the day. Typical Power Of Love ending.
And finally, to top it all off,
Quotes and Media
- "It's amazing you've come up with a theory even more insane than what's actually happening."
~ Rory, reading speculation about him on the internet.
- "Forget your faith in me. I took you with me because I was vain. Because I wanted to be adored. Look at you. Glorious Pond, the girl who waited for me. I'm not a hero. I really am just a mad man in a box. And it's time we saw each other as we really are. Amy Williams, it's time to stop waiting."
~ The Doctor remembers the Curse of Fenric, do you?
