Often called (by lazy writers) the "Cosmic Homo" and "The Rich Man's Eleventh Doctor", the Second Doctor was played by Patrick Troughton from 1966-1969 for nearly three whole seasons (not including Season 6B.)
A more youthful and spritely Doctor than the First, his visual description may be noted as a scruffy, impish chap with a Beatle haircut and the popular catchphrase "fuck my giddy aunt!". He occasionally plays a recorder, too.
The Second Doctor stuck around from The Power of the Daleks to The War Games. The BBC felt guilty for trashing 110% of his episodes and so they compensated Traowtun by having him return for The Three Doctors, The Five Doctors and The Two Doctors (unfortunately they wrote him shite in those). They've continued to make up for it by featuring his alter-ego Animated Second Doctor in the DVD releases to fill in gaps left by the episodes that don't exist anymore.
We meet the Time Lords for the first time in the Trout's final story, The War Games. The Doctor is found guilty of homosexuality and the Time Lords sentence him to exile on Earth and force him to regenerate into a foppish James Bond.
P Diddy, Colonic Bakery, Sly McCoy and Le Fezzler (the Fifth Doctor, Sixth Doctor, Seventh Doctor and Eleventh Doctor) have all said the Second Doctor is their favourite. Smith said his Doctor costume (in particular the bow-tie) was influenced by the Second Doctor's and cited the Troughton story The Tomb of the Cybermen as a favourite episode. Eccleston also said Trout was awesome in some interview.
Troughton is apparently the actor's actor.
In spite of the fact that, or perhaps because, he is so incredibly GOAT, he is probably one of the only Classic Doctors who has a fanbase as rabid, and frankly, as cringey and as "no fun allowed" as the fans of the NuWho Doctors, in spite of always ranking lower on the polls than the Fourth Doctor. To be fair, as implied earlier, this is probably only because he is so GOAT, and it goes to show that the most GOAT things will tragically always get the worst fans (see Star Wars, Godzilla, Alien, Steven Universe, Doctor Who, and other GOAT things with dogshit fans).
Unlike some of his wimpier incarnations, Two usually wasn't content to just save the humans, he had to kill every last alien. Sometimes there were survivors on another planet or something—you can't always be as lucky as in The Seeds of Death—but at least as far as he knew, he had successfully wiped them out.
Enemies fully taken care of:
- Daleks, twice, the second time making sure to get the entire race permanently (well…)
- Yeti, twice, although Jamie cockblocked his murder of the Great Intelligence
- Cybermen, twice, after sparing them the first time
- Ice Warriors, twice
- Dominators (and Quarks)
- Fictional characters
Enemies left with survivors:
Enemies killed by a different incarnation before he could do it:
Not a bad record.
